Benefits for long-term health

Vitamin D - Immune system

Vitamin D contributes to a balanced immune system by turning on key peptides in the body. These trigger a strong antimicrobial response that work to fight developing infections such as colds and flu.

Vitamin D - Muscle function

Vitamin D3 to help regulate the neuromuscular function (nervous and muscular systems) and to improve protein synthesis.

Vitamin D - Bones

Vitamin D3 helps the body to absorb calcium and phosphorus, key minerals for bone health and growth. While rare, vitamin D deficiency can result in soft and misshapen bones in children and adults.

Vitamin D - Osteoporosis and Menopause

Osteoporosis is a vitamin D deficiency symptom in adults. This is caused by increased calcification in the bones, making them brittle and soft. Vitamin D helps the body to absorb the calcium and balance normal blood calcium levels in postmenopausal women supporting the fight against osteoporosis.

Vitamin D is vitally important for healthy bones, blood calcium levels, muscles and the immune system.

Why do I need a Vitamin D supplement?

Also known as the ‘sunshine vitamin’, Vitamin D is produced naturally in the skin when it’s exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D is essential to maintain healthy bones, muscles, teeth, and the normal function of the immune system. Although you can get small amounts of vitamin D from certain foods such as egg yolks or cod liver oil, they are unlikely to provide sufficient vitamin D. Age, skin tone, lifestyle, pollution and body mass can also all impact on how the body makes and uses vitamin D.

The NHS recommends that everyone should consider taking daily vitamin D supplements, especially between October and early March to maintain sufficient levels of vitamin D. They also advise that adults can take up to 100µg/4000IU of vitamin D daily.

Proto-col's vitamin d3 provides you with the vitamin D that you need, including the higher doses required during autumn and winter when the sun isn’t strong enough for your body to make enough vitamin D.
